Every woman’s experience is different, so it’s impossible to predict how an abortion procedure will affect you.
However, if you are experiencing grief, depression, or decreased self-esteem, you are not alone! This is especially true if you struggled with mental health in the past.
The good news is that healing is possible with the right support and resources. At Hope Pregnancy Resource Center, we exist to help you identify which steps to take in your healing journey.

Give Yourself Time and Space
When an abortion occurs, there is a shock to your hormonal system, and it can affect how you feel as your body regains its normal hormonal levels.
As you navigate your post-abortive journey, give yourself time and space. Show yourself the same understanding and compassion you would show a friend.
Make sure you do things out of your routine that bring you joy. Go for a walk in the sunshine, go to a free farmer’s market, or buy yourself a bouquet. Make sure you do things that spark joy, and include a friend if possible.
It’s important that you bring good things into your life and don’t remain isolated.
Get Help From Your Support System
You should not have to carry this alone as you work through your emotional turmoil. If you did not broadcast that you were pregnant, you don’t have to share your experience with others but reach out to one or two trusted people and share your thoughts and feelings with them.
Seek Post-Abortive Care
In addition to your family and friends, we recommend seeking professional help. While having a solid support system is essential, having a trained professional who understands how difficult experiences affect your brain and thought patterns is irreplaceable.
At Hope Pregnancy Resource Center, we offer a variety of referrals for post-abortive support and a safe, peer-supported space for you to process your experience.
