Having an abortion is a very personal decision, and no woman should feel pressured into it. If you’re unexpectedly pregnant and don’t want another abortion procedure, your other options are parenting and adoption.

You are not alone! You also don’t have to decide right away. Keep reading this article to learn more about what each option entails.

Adoption

Making an adoption plan allows you much autonomy and flexibility as the birth parent. Most adoptions in the US are open adoptions, which means that you continue to build and maintain a relationship with your child and adoptive family.

Many people find this a rewarding experience; however, if you want a more private alternative, you can choose closed or semi-open adoption. These choices allow you different degrees of confidentiality, from completely sealing any identifying information to using the adoption agency as an intermediary for communication without disclosing any identifying information.

Parenting

Choosing parenthood can be incredibly fulfilling as you help a new life explore and understand the world’s complexities. However, it’s important, especially for first-time parents, to recognize the significant responsibility of raising a child.

Here are a few questions to consider as you assess this option:

  1. Am I ready to commit to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for a child?
  2. Do I have the emotional and financial stability to meet the needs of a growing child?
  3. Have I considered the impact that parenting may have on my personal and professional life?
  4. Am I prepared to dedicate my time, energy, and resources to ensure the well-being and development of a child?

Considering these questions can help you assess your readiness and commitment to the responsibilities of parenthood.
